What To Do?
May 27, 2008
One of my mom’s closest friends was recently diagnosed with cancer. What do you do, especially being out-of-state? The only thing I could think of is to pamper her and try and make it as “pleasant” experience as possible. I had a new bag idea in mind and I picked out some of my favorite fabric, part of Amy Butler’s new collection. I sketched it out, cut the pieces and put it together. I am extremely happy with how it turned out. I hope she likes it. I always get nervous about my fabric choices as my taste is not necessarily the same as someone else’s taste but I think it is cheerful and fun and hip. Fingers crossed.
I never intended to send the bag by itself. In fact, I put together what I dubbed “the cancer kit”. Three brain candy magazines, two easy reads, an aluminum water bottle (as #7 plastic leeches toxins which probably isn’t good for someone going through chemo), my favorite lotion and chapstick, and a pashmina shawl in deep coral for cold doctors’ offices.
My intention is to send a card with magazines and books every two weeks or so. (Did you know you can get papyrus cards at target?) It’s about the only thing I can think of to do. If anyone has suggestions please let me know; I would greatly appreciate it.

About Me
Welcome to my spot on the web where I talk about needlework, crafts, and [many] other random things.
A few tidbits about me: I met my husband in college, flirting over tuba letters in the Penn Band. Our dog, CJ, and our cat, Sabrina, round out our family. I'm a sewist, knitter and needlepointer, and an occasional scrapbooker. I love organizing, reading, making jewelry, and hiking. A Chicago girl at heart, I am an avid follower the Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks.
