My First Bazaar
December 6, 2008
I feel like there should be a Christmas ornament, My First Bazaar (kinda like Baby’s First Christmas). After weeks of work, I participated in my first Christmas bazaar held at a local church. I had no idea what to expect. I will tell you that I would definitely do it again. I was very impressed with how well it was organized and set up. It was a little disappointing because I only made 6 sales. I was hoping for more but I was also realistic that the economy might keep people away, or they would be a little more particular while shopping. On the positive side, I think I made some beautiful things, I received many compliments, and I got to spend quality time with my mom.
And speaking of my mom, she’s amazing. Sorry for the blurry picture, but aren’t we cute? She sewed about 65 little flower pins for me which were a really cute addition to my pouches. They took the pouch from nice to super cute! As I had hoped, people did find them to be nice gift items and they were my big seller. My mom also drove down from Connecticut to help me with last minute things on Friday and to help me at the sale. There was a lot of last minute stuff to do. I’m glad I had the help setting up, but I’m more thankful for the company. Mom was a great salesperson and we had time to talk and it was an all around nice day.
While the quantity of my sales were disappointing, the quality of my sales was awesome. That sounds weird, but let me explain. I came back from the restroom to find my mom helping two young boys who had just bought a pair of earrings for their mom. They were somewhere in the 9 – 12 age range, shy and very sweet. They handed over their crumpled bills and seemed pleased with their little package which had been wrapped in tissue paper and secured with a ribbon and a sticker. They thanked us and went on their way. Ten minutes later, they came back and picked out another pair of earrings. It made my day. And it was what I was hoping for when I priced out my goods, trying to have something at every price level and trying to have something affordable for kids trying to shop for mom. Did I mention that it made my day?
Hope you all had lovely Saturdays too!

About Me
Welcome to my spot on the web where I talk about needlework, crafts, and [many] other random things.
A few tidbits about me: I met my husband in college, flirting over tuba letters in the Penn Band. Our dog, CJ, and our cat, Sabrina, round out our family. I'm a sewist, knitter and needlepointer, and an occasional scrapbooker. I love organizing, reading, making jewelry, and hiking. A Chicago girl at heart, I am an avid follower the Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks.
