Getting Off My Butt

July 12, 2009

When I worked my day job, I would dream of all the things I could accomplish if I didn’t have said day job. I would have time for my etsy shop, time to sew myself a new wardrobe, time to knit my stash, time to finish my needlepoint Christmas stocking (and the hundred other canvases I own), time to read through the unbelievably large pile of books in my queue. And for now, I don’t have that day job, and what have I accomplished?

I don’t really feel that I’ve frittered away my days. I think that I have been keeping myself pretty busy. But not as productive as I could be. I find that when I have a lot going on and my days are more structured, I’m better at managing my time. And these days, there hasn’t been a lot of structure (which, truth be told, has been a treat). I just don’t want to look back and wish I had used my time better and gotten more done. Especially when it comes to my etsy shop. I’ve made an investment in materials and I have the ideas. And I have the time. Now I need the motivation.

On Friday, I started some lavender scented sachets for my shop. I was inspired by fresh lavender at my farmers market. I bought some and dried it and it smells divine. I also had an idea to scent some rice with oils and mix it with the lavender. So I got off my butt and started to put them together. I’m pleased with how they turned out. I will be posting the first batch tomorrow and I have more to sew and more lavender to dry.

I also have a bunch of items to post. Necklaces and earrings. And more things to make. I’m trying to get myself on a bit of a schedule. Have I mentioned that before? Nothing super strict, but I want to get my exercise in the morning, spend a couple of hours working on shop things, a couple of hours working on personal projects (either knitting or sewing or stitching or reading). And I do need to spend a little bit of time maintaining the house. We’ll see how it goes.

The More You Spend The More You Save

May 1, 2009

Oh, one of my favorite sayings. But it’s true…in a way. Anyhoo, I’m having a grand reopening of my etsy store and to celebrate, everything is 25% off. There’s all sorts of goodies in the shop including earrings, necklaces, pillows… Check it out!

I’ve got tons more ideas and a little bit of time right now to work on those things, so I hope to keep adding to the store all month. It is really nice to have some time to be creative (although my craft studio is still a work in progress).

I’ve also been working on the house, trying to get the last things put away. I have sewing to do for the house too, but I need Bill to work on my curtain rods, so I’ve got a little time. And I’ve got a punch of pillows to make. And some tops I want to make myself. And a skirt.

What am I blogging for, I’ve got work to do!?!

Don’t forget to check out my store!

Getting Into a Groove

February 6, 2008

I’m feeling inspired again. I have wanted a storage case for my iPhone and earphones. I bought a cute new acrylic case but wanted a little more padding for when I carry it around. It took me awhile to come up with a design but I have not only one design, but two. The case in the photograph is my closed case with a flap that covers the cell phone pocket and the earbud pocket. There’s an open design where only the earbud pocket closes. I’m still working out the kinks on that one. So far, I am loving my storage case. I like having a place to put my earphones so that I always know where they are. It will help keep me from leaving them at home. While specifically designed for an iiPhone, it will also fit an iPod or other larger cell phone. It will also fit a cell phone with a relatively small bluetooth headset.

I am going to make a couple of the cases for my etsy store.

shotupdateOh my gosh, I have not been getting very much accomplished. Aside from a shop update last week, I’ve done nothing. I added a couple of necklaces and earrings to the inventory. Pretty sparkly things. If you get a chance, check it out.

As for my unproductiveess, after my birthday weekend (which was wonderful!!!), it was back to work and boy was that a shock. On top of it, I had night meetings two nights in a row which really throws off my schedule. And then of course it carried over to the weekend. I did get together with one of my closest friends and we hung out and worked on some projects. She has some beautiful alpaca yarn from Bolivia so we looked at some patterns. She wants to make a headband that she can tie around her head and we came up with a pattern. Once she finishes the headband, she’s going to use the remainder of the yarn to make a ruffle scarf. It will be beautiful. I wasn’t thinking because I didn’t take a picture of the yarn. I would say it’s sport weight yarn, on a spool, from Bolivia in a camel color. I’m very jealous… Of course we hung out while Bill cooked us up some yummy soup with homemade noodles. Perfect for a cold, windy Saturday. The recipe was from the February issue of O magazine. I couldn’t find it online or I would share…

Sunday was… well I barely remember. I think it involved picking up, laundry, and other non-eventful activities. I also think that my system is in a state of shock from the lack of football. I am looking forward to the Superbowl, not that I care about the teams. (Actually, I’m more looking forward to a delicious Superbowl meal that I haven’t picked out yet. But I know it will be delicious.) Last year, I had pizza flow in from Chicago. This year will not be as extravagent.

Yesterday was rainy and dreary. It was one of those days where I would have liked to stay in bed reading. No such luck. Actually, that makes me remember when I would read on the metro on my way to work. There was once (possibly twice) where I was so close to the end of my book when I got off the train, that I called in “running late” and diverted to a coffee shop to finish the book. Those days are past since I don’t read while I drive. You might think that a person can’t read while they drive and the scary thing is that I have seen fellow commuters (two, i think) do it. An actual novel. How scary is that? On a highway. Granted, a packed highway in stop and go traffic, but is there really any situation while driving where reading would be okay?

The good news is today is actually Wednesday and all morning I thought it was Tuesday. Well, that makes me feel much better!

I’ve Got a Mascot!

December 24, 2007

mascotLook what I’ve got! My mother-in-law knit me this little duckle as a mascot for my business. Isn’t he cute? I’ve got the perfect corner on my desk where he can keep me company. It was so thoughtful. Now he just needs a name. Any ideas? And I’m assuming it’s a he, but it could be a she.

Oh, and Merry Christmas Eve! Do you call it Christmas Eve Day or just Christmas Eve? This is an on-going debate in our house. Regardless, hope you have a wonderful holiday!

Thanks again, Jeanne!
